Of all the wedding plans, vendors chosen, directions taken, decisions made… my favorite part so far has been the selection of music: finding music for the prelude, processional, bride’s entrance, recessional, postlude, cocktail hour, reception entrance, etc. Yeah, I had no idea there were so many -ludes and -cessionals, too. Regardless, it’s so satisfying when you find the perfect song to fit each moment, almost akin to when I found Eva… I couldn’t stop smiling for weeks. Actually, now that I think about it, I haven’t stopped smiling since.
I’m excited, just over 2 months until the big day!
I don’t think I’ve ever collectively spent as much time at Michael’s in my entire life as I did this weekend… but whatever, we have our invitation idea set and ready to deploy! Execution though, will be the limiting factor… We’ll see how that plays out.
And I do believe we’ve finally found our band! We checked them out on Friday – me for the first time, Eva for the second time. They’re very entertaining and engaging and are a cool bunch of people. I just wished we didn’t have to see them in a smoky bar. By the time we left, we were covered in a nice even coating of the night’s smoky haze. No matter, the band was great.
Less than 3 months to go! Food tastings, here we come! Man, the days are passing so quickly. Stay tuned for more updates!
Our photographers have given us our engagement photoset and have put up a blog post about us! check it out at esvyphoto.com. They do some amazing work, and I’m not just saying that because they’re our friends… or maybe they’re amazing BECAUSE they’re our friends… haha, I kid, I kid. Nevertheless, check them out. They have a visually engaging blog that is not just a joy to aimlessly peruse, but a riot to read. Subtle humor intermingled with sentimental wit will tease grin out of anyone, regardless of how down and out they are.
So now that Eva’s brother’s wedding was a beautiful success this past weekend, we can 100% commit our time to our own wedding! We’re closing in on the homestretch now…
Our save the dates have been completed… after 8-9 hours of laborious work between a laptop, a printer, a papercutter, and a makeshift paint room (Eva’s garage). By the way, just so everyone knows, the save the date is actually a magnet. The magnetic paper was thinner than I thought it’d be (ordered online), so it just appears to be a thick photograph. My bad. So anyway, the save the dates should be going out some time in the next couple of weeks, as we’re finding it hard to actually get to a post office during their open hours.
I think we’re close to choosing a videographer now. We totally love the cinematic style of StillMotion based out of Canada, but they’re slightly out of our budget… by about the per capita of their own lovely country. Really, we didn’t think videography would be high on our list of priorities, but after seeing what was possible through these geniuses, we had to get someone with a similar style. When we first discovered them, we literally watched videos they had filmed and posted on vimeo.com every night for at least a week. But they’re big time now, contracted to film Super Bowl XLV for NFL Films this weekend. Congrats to them.
Oh yeah, one last thing… bridesmaids dresses will be ordered in the next week! Yeah, we did post saying they were chosen months back, but Eva changed her mind. She found a dress she liked better. Bridezillas have that right. And by “bridezilla”, I meant most awesomest loveliest person in the world… Love you, baby!
productive day today… we finalized our cake bakery and eva decided on a bridesmaid dress! Panini Bakery and Cakes will do us the honor of creating their masterful and delicious mousse cakes. Yes, we will have separate bride and groom cakes. Eva’s cake will be grand and elegant, but mine will be more awesome. Shh, don’t tell her I said that… I’m excited to see and taste the results.
And after an arduous 3 months and hundreds of dresses, Eva has found the one her beautiful bridesmaids will wear. The chosen raspberry colored dresses are fabulous and functional – classy but summery.
So I’ve been pretty busy over the last month and a half, despite not having been staffed since 8/13. Wow, it’s been over 2 months since I’ve done real work… What have I been up to? Oktoberfest in Munich, and mainly transitioning to a new company. I had no idea there was so much work involved in quitting a job, and even more work in starting a new one. I’ve been caught in an endless stream of orientations, required online courses, employment forms, rinse and repeat. I can’t wait until I’m able to do real work again! I’m actually scheduled to a project in Dallas (what a convenient coincidence), but the on-boarding process is taking forever, so I have no idea when my actual start date is.
But ya’ll don’t want to hear about that. Let’s talk about the ridiculously awesome engagement photo sesh we had. It was simply awesome. By the way, our photogs for the wedding are Mike and Darren, known collectively as Esvy Photography. I’m just going to go ahead and say they are the next big thing. I’ve known them since college and have watched their talent blossom majestically. Just check out their visually engaging blog for samples of various weddings they’ve done to see what I mean. But before you do, sit down, take a deep breath, and prepare to be impressed. Now go!
Anyway, we had our engagement shoot on a beautifully warm September day. It was probably warmer than I would’ve liked, dressed to the nines, but the results were worth it. Mike and Sath pampered us and made us look amazing, especially Eva. Yes, I am marrying a supermodel. Woohoo! We hit 4 main locations, with the first location alone producing over 700 shots! Yes, Mike was giddy like a schoolgirl with his camera and went a little crazy. The rest of the day produced fewer shots, but only because we were losing daylight. I would love to post a sneak peek, but we’re still going through them all to choose those worthy of a final polish in post-processing. I can’t wait to finish reviewing everything. It is taking massive restraint for me not to post a few, but I must refrain. I apologize I got your hopes up with the post’s title and this big build up of the photoshoot. Worry not, my friends, they shall come.
In other news, despite the fact that my staffing status is in perpetual limbo, I have managed to fly to Dallas almost every weekend. Thank goodness that I’ve amassed an obscene amount of miles on Delta allowing me to book all these last minute trips. Over the last couple of weekends, we’ve been doing a few cake tastings. Yep, the best part so far. Eva had already been settled on a particular bakery, but cake tastings are just so much fun. Plus, it allows us to get ideas we hadn’t thought of or seen before, so it’s all in the name of research. Our expanding waistbands are just a sacrifice we’re willing to make in the name of data gathering. 🙂
This weekend, we find a florist!
… Wow, I am slight embarrassed that I just typed that with such implied excitement…
